Gaza: The Next Singapore on the Mediterranean?

Gaza: The Next Singapore on the Mediterranean?

Yes, it’s possible. And the raw material is already there.

Everyone knows Gaza has beaches, sun, and a perfect location.
What almost nobody mentions is that it also has one of the most educated populations in the Arab world.

  • Literacy rate: ~97%
  • University enrollment before the war was higher per capita than in Egypt, Jordan, or Lebanon
  • Thousands of engineers, doctors, IT specialists, and PhD holders trapped in a 365 km² open-air prison
  • Palestinian students regularly win international math, science, and programming competitions when they’re allowed to participate

The talent is there. The hunger is there.
The only thing missing is politics that allow people to breathe.

Singapore had no resources in 1965.
Lee Kuan Yew’s famous line: “We had nothing… except disciplined people and a strategic location.”
Gaza has both.
All it lacks is the freedom to trade, build, travel, import, export, and connect to the world without someone else’s boot on its neck.

Give Gaza:

  • open borders
  • a functioning port and airport
  • the right to develop its offshore gas field
  • security guarantees instead of collective punishment

…within 15–20 years it would be the Dubai-Singapore hybrid of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Tech hubs in Gaza City, medical tourism in Khan Younis, fintech and logistics zones linked to Israel, Egypt, and Europe.
Unemployment would drop from 50% to single digits. Young engineers would stop dreaming of boats to Europe and start building startups at home.

The problem has never been the Palestinians.
It’s always been the politics.

End the siege, end the suffocation, and watch what this insanely talented, young, educated people can do when they’re finally allowed to work for themselves instead of surviving someone else’s war.

Gaza isn’t a charity case.
It’s a Singapore waiting to be unlocked.

The question is not if they can do it.
The question is whether the world will ever let them.
