Oh, beloved gossip hounds of the Hellenic realm, hold onto your frappés – Alexis Tsipras is back in the headlines, preaching “profound renewal,” “new patriotism,” and a political “Big Bang” like he’s about to reinvent democracy itself. He’s quit parliament, ditched Syriza, published his memoir Ithaca (subtle, Alexis – we’re all still circling nowhere), and is teasing a shiny new party to save the progressive soul of Greece. Change! Renewal! Resistance to oligarchy and kleptocracy! The man is on fire with visions of a fresh start.
Yet… here we are in late 2025, and our eternal rebel is still rocking the open-collar look. No tie in sight at the Pallas Theater book launch. No knot during his Harvard fellowship chats. Not a whisper of silk around his neck in recent photos from Patra or Belgrade. The legendary anti-tie crusade lives on, apparently untouched by all this talk of transformation.
Remember the glory days? In 2015, Tsipras swore no tie until the debt crisis ended – a bold stand against the “noose” of austerity. World leaders gifted him ties left and right (Renzi, Juncker – even Erdogan looked baffled). He briefly caved in 2018 for that debt relief deal, posed awkwardly in burgundy, then yanked it off like it was radioactive. “One-off,” we thought. Fair play.
But now? He’s out there demanding “profound change” for Greece, a “new mindset,” citizen engagement, the works. He’s criticizing everyone else for fragmentation and self-interest. And we’re supposed to buy this revolutionary reboot… from a guy who won’t even change his own wardrobe?
Come on, Alexis. If you’re serious about renewal, start with yourself! Charity begins at home – or in this case, at the collar. Knot one on. Embrace the symbol of maturity, pragmatism, and yes, even a touch of establishment polish. Your new party needs a leader who looks ready for the job, not like he’s heading to a beach barbecue in Syntagma.
